FRAUD ALERT
The Council has been made aware of an e-mail that has been sent to individuals which is an attempt to illicit bank account details from them. The e-mail, which starts with the following message You have a new message from GOV.UK about your Council Tax is a scam and an attempt to defraud individuals by suggesting that the individual can claim a council tax refund. DO NOT respond to this e-mail.
If you are owed money because you have overpaid your Council Tax then you will NOT be advised about this by GOV.UK. If you are due a refund the Council will contact you direct but you will not be asked to provide your bank account details.
