Disability Wales responds to Welsh Government transport consultations

Welsh Government recently finished two consultations; one on improving local bus services and the other on the South Wales and Borders Rail Franchise.

Thank you to all who took the time to give us feedback through our survey, at events and by social media. You gave us really valuable evidence and feedback on what it is like for disabled people to use public transport in Wales.

You can view our consultation responses through the links below:

We continue to be involved with a number of Advisory Groups that influence Welsh Government and others on the issues important to disabled people using a range of transport methods.

Transport remains a key issue

If you have examples of good or bad practice or want to let us know about your experiences you can get in touch with Natasha.Hirst@disabilitywales.org or on 02920 887325

Ongoing work in other areas continues to link with transport issues. The review of the Framework for Action on Independent Living, the Parliamentary Review of health and Social Care and further transport related consultations are examples.

Taxi licensing

There will be a Welsh Government consultation on its proposals for the reform of taxi and PHV licensing. People have told us that it is hard to find and book accessible taxis, they get charged more and often taxis will ignore wheelchair users who try to hail them.

We need more examples of problems people have experienced and what happens when you try to complain. Please get in touch.
