Cwm Taf Maternity Services placed in special measures
"We welcome the fact that immediate steps are to be taken to place the Trust in special measures and hope that the concerns will be addressed.
However, there are serious questions to be answered here regarding why the Trust has been allowed to get to this position, and people at the top must be held accountable.
The South Wales Programme set in motion six years ago talked of staff shortages and concerns of patient safety if nothing was done. It was the main reason given for the reorganisation of services across the area. Yet they now do not even have the staff it seems to keep one unit operating safely.
The Chief Executive and senior Trust figures have failed to address the issue and it is they who should be held accountable. They have let down patients and staff and shown themselves incapable of running a service that is fit for purpose."
