Be careful of rogue taxi drivers

During this run up week to Christmas and the New Year period we are putting out a gentle reminder to be careful of rogue taxi drivers who may try to cash in on your need to get home after a night out.

Police Sergeant Mike Rudall explains: "Despite the dangers, people seem to be undeterred from flagging down bogus taxis at the end of the night.

"You are not insured if you travel in an unlicensed cab and we would urge you to check out the car, and the driver, before you get in.

"Bogus taxi drivers will have no council signs or taxi licence showing in their car and no driver ID. Registered drivers will always have identification badges and are usually parked at known ranks.

"We just want to make sure that people stay safe when they use a cab over the festive season and ensure that they get a safe ride home."
