Bagsy for Life Competition Launched

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is giving its residents another great reason to recycle as it launches its BAGSY for Life competition this Recycle Week (23rd-29th September).

In summer 2018 the Council reduced the amount of black bags that households could place out for collection in a bid to increase recycling rates and avoid significant Welsh Government fines if we fail to hit the 70% recycling target for 2024/25.

Green tickets have been hidden in rolls of recycling bags across the County Borough and the lucky residents who find them will win a BAGSY for life designed by Rhondda's answer to Banksy – BAGSY!

Since the changes were introduced more and more residents are now recycling. Thanks to this great recycling effort, household and food waste recycling tonnages have already seen an increase. This latest green initiative aims to recognise and reward this fantastic effort – Well done RCT!

But residents have to keep up the good work as you've got to RECYCLE to WIN IT! The more you recycle, the more chance you have to find the green ticket. Only 100 tickets are being released and not only will you scoop yourself a BAGSY for life, but you will be entered in to a free prize draw to bag a signed, limited edition, framed BAGSY original picture. Competition ends in March 2020.

Everyone is Doing IT and it’s now time to….. Stop. Think. Recycle and luckily recycling in Rhondda Cynon Taf couldn't be easier, with a weekly, unlimited collection and a wide variety of places, across the County Borough to pick up your recycling bags from! You can even order bags and sign up to food waste and nappy recycling online. In addition to this, ALL community recycling centres across the County Borough are open 7 days a week from 8am – 7.30pm (March-October) 8am – 5.30pm (November to March).

It is estimated that 3 out of 4 residents are doing a great job at recycling and on average 80% of household waste is recyclable – that's 8 out of every 10 bags of waste created by households being recycled and turned in to something new.

To further help residents they can now check what you can and can’t recycle in RCT by searching the A-Z online recycling guide, which was introduced last year and thanks to residents feedback the comprehensive list of items is continuing to grow – find out what you can recycle at www.rctcbc.gov.uk/recyclingsearch

“Recycling figures are continuing to grow and this is thanks to all our recycling residents – the BAGSY for lifecampaign is our way of thanking residents for their continuing effort and support. The great thing about the competition is that all you have to do is "recycle to win it". So get recycling RCT and bag yourself a green ticket and a BAGSY for life!”
