Answers to questions about Park Surgery Trecynon Maendy Place Surgery Abercwmboi Medical Practice

Below are answers to questions put to  Cwm Taf Morgannwg Community Health Council your theoretical local NHS watchdog question was because of the lack of a full-time GP in Park Surgery Trecynon and why is it taking so long to open the Maendy Place Surgery at the Cynon Linc.

Following our previous correspondence responses to your questions:

 

  1. Is the CHC satisfied with the lack of GP attendance in Park Surgery? The expectation of the CHC is that all GP sites are adequately resourced and covered by GPs and Nurses. We accept that COVID and sickness can impact the on availability to cover multiple sites on occasion. However, we would welcome being made aware of any long-term lack of such cover and would be looking for action from the UHB if this was identified.
  2. When will the lift be operational in the Abercwmboi Medical Practice? The building had changed hands earlier this year and the new landlord has been asked to repair/replace the lift as part of a number of building improvements/repairs. The UHB report that the new landlord is dealing with this and further updates have been sought.
  3. What is the issue with transferring Maendy Place Surgery to the new Cynon Linc Community Hub (CLC Hub)? We have been informed that the Cynon Linc (Maendy Practice as it will be known) should be operational from 8th August 2022. This update was provided by the UHB yesterday.
  4. Is the CHC satisfied with the presence of GPs in only one of two practices? Please see our response to question 1.
  5. What are the views of the CHC in regards to COVID being used as reason not to undertake face-to-face appointments? Welsh Government has recently launched a new access commitment which requires practices to deliver a blended model of access. The type of appointment would be a clinical based decision, so we would not be in a position to influence this as such, but patients are encouraged to request face-to-face if they feel it is required. In regards to COVID being used as reason not to have face-to-face, again the CHC is not a clinical body and would have to accept any decision made in relation to patient safety and that of the GP Staff. We are asking for updates in terms of decisions to reduce services as a result of illness but acknowledge that COVID sickness rates have been high recently and this would undoubtedly have an impact on delivery of services.
