Actif Woods Wales, run by Coed Lleol is a national project which aims to reconnect people and woodlands using the natural environment as a therapeutic tool. With a number of projects throughout the country, each with its own focus on woodland activity, the work is based on studies that have shown the benefits of being outside for both physical and mental health. Some project activities focus on people with health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, postoperative or those feeling isolated and lonely. Other project activities focus on people with mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder. All have a focus on outdoor woodland based activity led by the interests of those taking part, and all participants feedback what a positive difference Actif Woods Wales makes to them.
