History and heritage

The Cynon Valley is surrounded by the history of an industrial age it is for this reason that there are many different avenues of that can be explored. AberdareOnline's history pages will hopefully provide you with a brief insight into the history of the Cynon Valley.

The Crawshays

The Crawshay family of Cyfarthfa, Merthyr Tydfil were very business orientated owning numerous Iron Works and Colliery. Hirwaun Iron works being one of many.

Mountain Ash and District Choral Society

Mountain Ash and District Choral Society is one of the oldest mixed choirs in South Wales with its roots dating back to 1964. As the name suggests, although based in Mountain Ash, we draw members from as far afield as Cardiff, Merthyr and Glynneath. Rehearsals are held every Wednesday evening (during school term time) in Bethania chapel vestry in Phillip Street, Mountain Ash. Although we currently number more than 70 members, we’re actively seeking new members, particularly tenor and bass voices.
