I will be visiting Aberdare in August and don't want to drive down to Cardiff. Is there a train I can catch. Can I pay on the train, do I have to pre-book, or is there a ticket wicket?
Also, I have heard that train travel in the valleys is not very safe - is this true? I will be bringing a friend from Canada with me - I don't want to get mugged on the way!
Travelling from most valley
Travelling from most valley towns via train is safe, reasonavle after 09.00am in morning and regular. car parking in the aberdare station is good, but it is only 2-3 mins walk from town.
You can pay on train but siometimes the ticket office is open on the platform.
It gets a bit loud after about 20.30 hours buts that the retards coming out with their cheap lager and drugs. I use the train where I THINK ITS EASIER THAN USING THE CAR.
Go by train to cardiff as both stations in cardiff have direct access to shops and restaurants , bars. Go to Bay via another train from queen street.
One thing the conductors wont rip you off like they do in Italy
I use the train regularly on
I use the train regularly on a Saturday to go to Cardiff and I have never encountered any problems. They run every half hour from Aberdare but I would check the timetable to be on the safe side. Just make sure there are no rugby/football matches on as it is horrendous to get home then.
there is a new park and ride
there is a new park and ride car park at aberdare station these days..there is a "ticket wicket" ,as you so aptly called it, in the carpark where you buy a train ticket and parking ticket together....enjoy the trip
Thank you for all your
Thank you for all your replies.
You could also use the fee
You could also use the fee Park and Ride facility at Abercynon. That way you would have a choice of using both the Aberdare and Merthyr Tdfil trains.
