I don't know about you but I've given up on Britain ever seeing another hot summer. We seem to be faced with deluge after deluge. No wonder I see so many glum faces around the town.
So if this is global warming, can I have my share please? I'd give anything for a little bit of it right now, as I'm sick of looking out of my window and seeing the trees bending in the howling wind and the rain lashing my garden.
I checked the temperature on my shed this morning and it read 10 degrees! This is almost the end of June, and we are still in the grip of winter. Yes, we had a few weeks of sun back in March and May, but that's it; winter came back with a vengence and shows no sign of leaving just yet.
They say it's all down to the jet stream being fixed over Britain at 20,000 feet above our heads, and that's drawing in Arctic air to give us this foul weather. Meanwhile, other parts of the world are baking in record heat. Once again I have to ask, where's our share? Can we have a little bit please, just for a week or two? Is that too much to ask?
Why they're queing up over the channel in France to come to this god forsaken, freezing, rain lashed land of ours I'll never know. After all, this is the sixth or seventh year in succession now that we've suffered such prolonged bad weather, and so extreme with it.
Anyone ready to emigrate to sunnier climes yet? I know of two families who are doing just that, and the weather has a major influence on their decisions to go to Australia. Can't say I blame them.
I mean, it's bad enough being skint in Britain, with all the money ripped off us by bankers and financiers, but like Greece, if you're going to be skint, it's better to be skint in the sunshine.
There is no such thing as

Yes it must be a bit
Yes it must be a bit daunting when the weather is bad week after week but at least you can shoot off to warmer climes reasonably easier with the continent just an hour or two away.
Here in Perth we have warm weather for about 9 months of the year and we sometimes long for rain. having it hot for weeks on end is'nt ideal either. 40C degrees is as much an ordeal as is 10c. There is no Utopia believe me.
The cost of living here in Perth is higher than in Aberdare especially the food department so be careful what you wish for as you may just get it.
The grass on the other side is'nt always greener.
True enough Cymro. By the
True enough Cymro. By the way, how long has the cost of living been so high out in Australia? I was always under the impression it was a relatively cheap place to live.
Hi crazydruid. Australia
Hi crazydruid.
Australia have altered dramatically over the last 3-4 years whereas it was once cheap to buy a house and food was around half the price of the U K the cost of living here now is a shock to many newly arrived immigrants.
To rent a house in Perth now could start around $300 per week and could be as much as $500 or more even depending where the house is located.
Bus and train fares are still cheap by comparison as a train journey into the city for me living in the suburbs around 8-10 miles away is $1.70 and if I return within 2 hours I don't have to pay again it is a return ticket.
Electricity and gas has gone up 22% over the last 18 months and is now a consideration when budgeting. but there again we don't need heating for 9 months of the year.
Shock prices are in food over the last couple of years e.g.
Savoy cabbage = $5 each
Cauliflower = $4 ..
Leeks = $3 ..
Swede = $7 per Kilo
Parsnip = $10 .. ..
Spuds = $2 .. ..
Bread = $2 to $5 depending on what bread you buy.
Sirloin steak = $28 per kilo
Rump steak = $17 .. ..
Scotch Fillet = $31 .. ..
Lamb = $16 .. ..
Pork = $12 .. ..
Lettuce = $1.90 each
Cucumber = $1-$2 ..
Tomatoes = $3 ..
You will be shocked I'm sure by some of the vege prices as I am myself but we have only 3 or 4 supermarkets here and they have a monopoly so we are at their mercy.
The above prices are current and they do vary according to season for salads etc. which probably happens there also but don't think everything in Australia is cheap as it's not as you can see above.
To see a doctor can cost up to $56 and all prescriptions have to be paid for each item. As a senior pensioner I don't have to pay to see the doctor but any prescriptions are $5.60 per item. but we do have great facilities and I can get an x ray within an hour of leaving the doctors and have the plates ready to take back to him within half an hour. and we keep our own plates at home for future ref. saves the doctor storing them.
Hope it has been helpful to you.
Have a nice day and best wishes from Down Under where it's grey skies today and raining, cold too at 15c degrees. Brrr

Hi Gibbsy I don't even know
Hi Gibbsy
I don't even know what the "Hell on wheels box" is or blue ray for that matter.
I have my computer and I'm happy to correspond etc. on there ,as for all this other technology I don't want to know as frankly it is getting a bit beyond me now to keep up with it.
My phone still consists of a length of string with a cocoa tin at each end and it works well enough unless I try to phone Aberdare and then I get a bit of bother but other than that it suits me fine.
Have a great day folks and best wishes.

Aye I can well imagine. I have just finished Bill Bryson's book, 'Down Under' recalling his trip around Oz. The sheer scale of the place is amazing.
Yes it's a big country
Yes it's a big country alright, It takes a 3.5 hour flight for me to get to Sydney on the other side so I don't go there too often.
W A is the biggest state as you probably know and Perth is the most isolated city in the world with the next city to us being around 1,760 miles away to the east.
I think W A is around 35 times bigger than the U K.
Not much here though once you get out of Perth, Hell of a lot of iron ore up north that they export to china, also diamond mines, uranium, etc so it is the resource wealthiest state in Australia. Great climate if you can stand the heat, get's up to 45c degrees sometimes in summer even hotter up north. It's not Utopia though, Nowhere is only Utopia.
Have a nice day everyone.

The cost of living is
The cost of living is improving in the UK, petrol prices are falling. This is all thanks to David Cameron, but he must press on hard with the welfare reforms. Taking away housing benefit for the under 25s is a brilliant move. These people can all stay at home with their parents keeping them. I know three people who have been on Incapacity Benefit for years, they have now been told they are fit for work. One chap has had to get rid of his car as he cannot afford to run it on Job Seekers allowance.(excellent)
David Cameron cannot do anything about the weather, but he has done so much good for the hard working tax payer.
He sure has, cocoman, Sir
He sure has, cocoman, Sir Phillip Green and all the rest of his tax dodging cronies are laughing all the way to the casinos in Monaco.

Oil prices jumped $6 yesterday. Just watch, up like a rocket down like a feather. Bad David, bad David.
I heard the depressing news
I heard the depressing news on the TV yesterday that this bout of lousy summers could go on for another twenty years! Yes, twenty years.
It's all to do with the jet stream's position over us of course, and once it settles into a pattern it tends to stay there. If ever I felt like emigrating it was when I heard that little gem.
Other parts of the world have experienced extremes of heat, with scores of people dying in the US because of it. Now I don't want to see people dying of heat here, but could we have just a little bit of it, you know, just for a couple of weeks to give us time to dry out and get some vitamin D into our bodies from sunlight?
Is it down to human meddling, or natural causes like volcanoes spewing out CO2 gas, or maybe a combination of the both? Whatever it is, scientist James Lovelock has already warned us that once we realise it's happening it's already too late, and our only hope from then on is to adopt survival tactics as we're in for one long bumpy ride.
Hold on to your hats.
Better leave my tent packed

So am I to take it that this rain sodden summer of ours is also the fault of benefits claimants, the work shy and single mothers? I must confess I'm lost on this one as I completely fail to see the connection. Perhaps someone could enlighten me.

I'm afraid I'm not the man you think I am. Obviously a lot older than you, but it seems not as wise as you O Great One.
If you've got any influence with your hero Dave can you ask him if I can have my winter fuel allowance now as I've had to have the central heating on.
But I'm sure I know you. Are you the Richard Cranium that was in the Aberdare Boys' Comprehensive School?
