Despite having been elected since 5th May and having been officially in post since the AGM on 23rd May RCT Council Cabinet will not have its first official meeting until 30th July.
Welsh Liberal Democrat Councillor Mike Powell was surprised to see that a meeting originally in the calendar for 2nd July has been cancelled.
"RCT is the second biggest council in Wales, and whilst meetings are only a small part of the business of the Cabinet then they must surely have reason to get together and discuss some of the major issues which are ongoing.
Cabinet meetings are open to the public and other Councillors can go along and observe and with permission take part in discussions on occasions. If they are not happening then there is yet another section of this Council's business that is not open to scrutiny."
The newly issued Council Calendar also shows that only six meetings are planned for each of the Scrutiny Committees over the coming year. With the Labour Chairs of those committees getting an extra allowance of £8,735 per year that equates to £1,456 per meeting.
