Rhondda Cynon Taf Mayor Cllr Robert Smith officially welcomed friends from France this month.

He held a civic reception for guests visiting Rhondda Cynon Taf from Trignac in France.

The visitors’ trip to the county borough was to attend the opening of the Welsh Coal- Breton Steel exhibition at Pontypridd Museum.

Their stay was made possible thanks to the support of Brian Davies at the Museum and Pontypridd Town Centre.

Among the delegates from Trignac were Deputy Mayor Mrs Sophie Duquesne, Council clerk Jan-Paul Martel and Mr Yannick Danaire, President of Trignac Rugby Club.

Dr Jacqueline Gibson, President of the Breton Wales Association and former lecturer in French at Aberystwyth University.

Mayor Cllr Robert Smith said: “It was a pleasure to meet the French guests in the Mayoral Parlour and to then attend the opening of this important and interesting exhibition.

“We are proud of the links Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has with its counterparts across the world and pleased to be able to welcome so many of them to our County Borough.”
