A cancer charity is urging people across Rhondda Cynon Taf to be more inventive about where and how they drink their coffee - to help them raise £8.3m.
Rhondda Heritage Park is holding their own unusual event, The World’s Deepest Coffee Morning on September 24th from 10am to 2pm, so pop along to enjoy some coffee and a lot of cake!
The World’s Deepest Coffee Morning will take place at the award-winning park based at the former Lewis Merthyr Colliery in Trehafod. The park is one of the top heritage and cultural visitor attractions in South Wales and provides an interesting day out for individuals, groups and students of any age.
Now the charity is urging local people who don't like the idea of a traditional coffee morning to make their coffee morning as unusual as possible.
Macmillan’s fundraising manager for Rhondda, Debbie Jones said: “We know that having a straight forward coffee morning doesn't appeal to everyone, so that's why we’re encouraging people to think of unusual places and unusual ways to have their coffee.
“In previous years we’ve had have a group of fishermen holding a coffee morning in the middle or a river and a couple of girls holding their coffee morning hanging off the side of a cliff. We’ve even had mounted police having a coffee morning on horseback.
“Obviously not everyone will want to do something unusual for coffee morning, and of course that’s fine. We just want to make sure people know that they don’t have to hold an event in a church hall if they’d rather do something they find more exciting.”
108,000 people in the Wales are living with cancer, and one in three will be diagnosed during their lifetime. Every donation, whether 50p or £50, will help Macmillan continue providing much needed support. This could be practical help with everyday tasks, financial advice and assistance to help with the unexpected costs of cancer, emotional support or expert medical care from a Macmillan professional.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism Cllr Robert Bevan said: “Rhondda Heritage Park is delighted to host one of the many Macmillan Coffee Mornings being held on September 24th throughout the UK in an effort to support them in their essential fundraising activities. We hope plenty of people will come along, enjoy a drink with friends and boost the charitable funds of the organisation in the process.
This year Coffee Morning falls on Friday 24 September but you can hold one whenever is most convenient for you. Just one small mug of coffee really can make a big difference so to make that cuppa count, register now at www.macmillan.org.uk/coffee or call 0845 070 1315.
