The ConDem government in Westminster propose boundary changes to parliament seats. This proposal includes splitting the Cynon Valley into three pieces, top to go into Merthyr, bottom into Pontypridd, and the middle into Rhondda (sic). Their submissions made to the consultation process is here...
The Labour Party have made no counter proposal and agree with the Tories. This would abolish the Cynon Valley and put Mount in with Rhondda, Aberdare into Merthyr, and Abercynon into Ponty.
The LibDems propose keeping the Cynon constituency and lumping in Rhondda Fach into the Cynon. They also propose merging Pontypridd with Cardiff North.
Plaid suggest splitting Cynon in two, by putting the lower Cynon into Ponty, and re-establisjing the Aberdare and Merthyr constituency. This would also involve taking the Elai wards into Rhondda.
