Go slow on the Abercynon Roundabout

P1010114_2.JPG

Well its all go slow on the Abercynon Roundabout having past there last week twice it would seem there is no work proceeding, another broken Labour assurance that the work would be completed by the end of March.

"One project that will benefit from this fund will be the A470 Abercynon roundabout which will be developed so that north-bound peak-time congestion will be eased resulting in improved access to the town."

What did the Alyn and Deeside Labour Assembly Member Carl Sargeant say “These improvements, which will be completed before the end of March 2012, are in addition to other general maintenance issues such as drainage and lighting.”

Him being the Labour member from Alyn and Deeside North Wales he cares little for the people of Cynon Valley

Funny how they did junc 32

Funny how they did junc 32 turn off to A470 in matter of weeks and we get bob a job dave and his trusty wheel barrow to do the abercynon roundabout in 6 years. So much for the residents of the valleys.

Must have thought we came in on the last coal boat to Barry

I see over a month has past

I see over a month has past since I past the Abercynon Roundabout what’s going on no work done in the last month no progress perhaps the firm that started the work have gone bust?
Or perhaps dave and his trusty wheel barrow had a puncture

Anyone know what’s going on?

Dont know if true but told

Dont know if true but told there was a problem with Network Rail and something to do with their bridge at the side of the roundabout.

Not seen anywork there for over a month myself

Nice to see the Cynon

Nice to see the Cynon getting some investment, the below is off the RCT website

Thousands of motorists are set to benefit from Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s ongoing £9m Highways Investment Scheme, as work begins on the main A4059 route between Abercynon and Aberdare this month.

As part of the strong commitment to maintaining and improving the County Borough’s highways infrastructure, the Council is ploughing over £450,000 in to the A4059, which is used by thousands of motorist every day.

The planned works are set to take place during late June/early July and are expected to be completed in less than a week subject to the weather conditions allowing the works to progress as planned.

As the A4059 is a busy route there will inevitably be some minor disruption during the works, however in order to keep this to a minimum, the scheme will be undertaken outside peak hours (i.e. between 9.30am – 3.30pm and during evenings).

The highway improvements will include the application of a thin surface treatment to the whole carriageway using a preventative maintenance process called Finatex, which will ultimately seal the road and prevent any damage, including pot holes occurring during the harsh winter months as well as restoring skid resistance and texture to the road surface.

It is vital that the Council carries out preventative works along side repairing the existing damage to our highways to reduce the risk of pot holes forming in the near future. It may sometimes appear that the Council is carrying out works to “good” roads, but the preventative works ensure that cracks are less likely to occur in severe weather and will ultimately increase the life of our highways infrastructure and improve skid resistance.

Motorists travelling along the A4059 have already benefited from the scheme following works carried out on the A4059 Mountain Ash Capacity Improvements which have made a big difference in the area, by improving access to the town and to the new Cynon Valley Hospital. Works also took place to improve the signalling along the route to ensure that priority was given along the main stretch of road – thus reducing waiting time for commuters.

These improvements together with the planned resurfacing works are excellent news for commuters travelling to and from Abercynon - Cwmbach as they will result in improved access, journey time, reliability, skid resistance and pedestrian safety.

County Borough Councillor Andrew Morgan, Cabinet Member for Frontline Services, said:

"The Council has recognised the concerns expressed by the public at the damage caused from the previous harsh winters and it is for that very reason we are investing a further £9 million in our roads during 2012/13.

“Our significant investment of £10m last year has already made a substantial difference to residents and demonstrates the Council’s commitment to investing in the infrastructure within the County Borough.

“Over 230 roads and streets have already benefited from resurfacing works. This is over and above the 60,000 pot holes and patching repairs we have carried out since the work began in April 2011."

“The highway improvements have taken place right across Rhondda Cynon Taf with every ward of the County Borough benefiting.”

“I would like to thank the residents of the streets that have already been targeted for their support, as this has led to the speedy completion of the roads highlighted so far and ask them to bear with us as we continue the improvements.”

The Council’s Environmental Services team have now inspected and identified the streets across the County Borough that will be included in the resurfacing and strengthening programme for 2012. Works are now being carried out in the most cost effective manner, therefore it will not necessarily be in the order of priority but all the roads identified will be tackled this financial year.

Motorists on the A4059 have

Motorists on the A4059 have seen a BIG difference with the improvements in Mountain Ash. WHAT? I must be travelling on a difference road in a parallel universe.

The only thing that will significantly improve the traffic at Mountain Ash is the southern cross valley link.

I don’t think it’s a

I don’t think it’s a bridge at the Abercynon Roundabout I believe there is a short rail tunnel running beneath the roundabout this is a well-known fact.
It was County Councillor Bryan Fitzgerald about 25 years ago who informed me that it was impossible to have a prioritised left lane into Cynon valley because of the railway, Bryan must have known what he was talking about because at the time he was the chairman of mid Glamorgan County Council Highways Department.

I was wondering why someone in authority allowed the cutting up of the concrete roof of the railway tunnel little wonder there is a problem with Network Rail it would seem someone didn’t do his homework on the project.

How things have changed no one seems to care anymore get it done on the cheap that’s the Rhondda Cynon Taf way just the same as the southern cross valley link Bryan Fitzgerald said they were going ahead 25 years on and no bridges being built do the cheap option fiddle with the traffic lights at Mountain Ash that will shut the public up for a few years it’s the Rhondda Cynon Taf way.

So it looks like a big problem on the A470 or not?

Welshgit Oh Dear - Will

Welshgit
Oh Dear - Will people never learn?
You should believe absolutely NOTHING that comes out of a modern councillor's mouth.
Someone once said that the desire to become involved in politics should automatically debar that person from so doing (or something like that).
The rot set in when Glamogan County Council, Aberdare Urban District Council and, more importantly for this subject, Mountain Ash Urban District Council were broken up - its been downhill ever since.
I'm old enough to remember when both Aberdare and Mountain Ash were lovely, thriving, busy towns - now look at them.
RCT is only interested in the Rhondda and Taff parts of their domain - 'cos that's where the money is.
Cynon Valley gets, and will continue to get, the droppings.
I should think that Dave and his wheelbarrow have been contracted out to the London Olympics - more politically correct than a little roundabout in the Cynon Valley look you.

No sightings of Dave and his

No sightings of Dave and his wheelbarrow just what is the Welsh minister doing about finding Dave?

Minister for Local Government and Communities Carl Sargeant saying “These improvements, which will be completed before the end of March 2012”

I think Carl needs to find Dave otherwise this small construction job could take longer than building the Olympic Park.

Previously Carl was employed by a leading manufacturing company in North Wales he has trained as a Quality and Environmental Auditor and also as an industrial fire-fighter.

This construction job on the Abercynon Roundabout must be too big for him to control.

Having written to Cynon

Having written to Cynon Valley AM Christine Chapman with regard to the dedicated left turn northbound into Cynon Valley on to the A4059 at the Abercynon Roundabout, Christine Chapman has received and forward the response from Carl Sargeant AM Minister for Local Government & Communities.

“I am responding to your letter of the 23 October 2012 regarding anticipation completion date for work to configure a prioritised left turn into the Cynon Valley, northbound on the A470 (T) roundabout at Abercynon.

Subject to weather conditions and programme finalisation, the main phase of this scheme to install the segregated left-turn lane to the A4059, is scheduled to commence by the end of November and it is anticipated that the works will be complete by the end of the financial year.

We will of course endeavour to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum and we will publish details of works on the Traffic Wales web site, the Welsh Government information service.”

This will be welcome news for the residents of Cynon Valley and all users of the A470 who have to negotiate the infamous Abercynon roundabout at peak times.

Sounds like the same parrot

Sounds like the same parrot wrote that as all the other pieces of misinformation.

Oh yes, just bye the way.

Wales does not have a government since "The Laws in Wales Act" were passed, in 1536 and 1543 during the reign of King Henry VIII of England, another Welshman who found the comforts of London somewhat more appealing. The intention was to create a single state and a single legal jurisdiction; frequently referred to as England and Wales.

What Wales has now is that great, jobs for boys" talking shop called the Welsh Assembly with a few very minor law making provisions....it is no way a government of any description!

If it was, then surely it would be effective would it not!
.

So once they finish it will

So once they finish it will be another 100 years before a cross valley link has been completed.

Cant wait till they start on the HOVR A465 that will be about 25 years to completion

I passed Abercynon last

I passed Abercynon last night on the A470 and there was a load of work going on bout 10pm

Seems after all the delays work is progressing on that left turn lane

I see work on the Abercynon

I see work on the Abercynon roundabout is progressing

The one thing I did notice is the new filter lane that will approach the left turn lane is not very long.

The question is why not start the filter lane just past the bridge you go over on the approach to the roundabout.

Well I suppose it is Cynon Valley and second best is good enough unlike Cardiff
Never mind keep voting labour in the valleys and you get what you vote for.

The work is now causing

The work is now causing problems for vehicles coming down the valley. The queue of traffic was right back up the A4059 to before where it goes into two lanes. The problem seems to be that northbound traffic on the A470 are being filtered into one lane so that there is an almost constant stream of traffic going around the roundabout. Of course the lights were off as it was outside of peak period.

It took me 15 minutes to get onto the A470 southbound. Compounded by the fact that there was a ditherer in front of me.

Took me exactly an hour to

Took me exactly an hour to get to Abercynon roundabout yesterday morning. I left Aberdare at 8.45am and got there at 9.45am. How frustrating! Glad I haven't got to go every day.
