Famous Nos Galan Races

The famous Nos Galan Races commemorate the Welsh runner Guto Nyth Bran and his legendary athletic prowess. Stories of Guto include how he could catch a bird in flight, and how on one occasion he ran to Pontypridd and back, some seven miles, before the kettle boiled.

Anyone running this year?

More opportunities to register for Nos Galan

Runners planning on entering the 2010 Nos Galan Races can now pick up application forms across Rhondda Cynon Taf, or register online.

Application forms for the famous Races – held on New Year’s Eve in Mountain Ash - are now available from all Rhondda Cynon Taf libraries, leisure centres and Communities First offices as well as online at www.nosgalan.co.uk|

So far, more than 250 people of all ages have registered to take part on December 31, 2010.

Ann Crimmings, Chair of the Nos Galan Committee, said: "Already there has been a flood of entries and we are hoping to have record numbers of entrants and spectators this year.

"Entry prices have been frozen at the same rate as last year, but runners will need to register by post before Monday, December 13 or register online until December 30, subject to availability.

"We have been able to freeze the entry fees yet again in the adult and children's categories thanks to the continued financial support of our sponsors."

Held annually on New Year’s Eve in Mountain Ash in the Cynon Valley, the Nos Galan Races follow a 5km route around the town.
