Anyway, just for the record,
Anyway, just for the record, I still play, and have got really deep into the jazz numbers of Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald et al. I'm strictly solo now, and do play the occasional gig, though they are few and far between for a solo artist like me around here.
Still, I've retired from work altogether now, and have plenty of time to indulge my musical urges. I'm looking for a suitable recording studio to get all these jazz songs down onto a CD. So, if anyone knows of any good recording facilities around here, I'm all ears.
Happy new year to all and sundry!
is there not a place over
is there not a place over Newport way? Andy Fairweatherlow who used to sing in A-men corner had it at one time don't know who has it now but it is still going and know top artists have been and recorded there. Where I live in North Wales its Sain Records,
the Micheal Beynon I knew was from Cwmbach and that was many yrs ago just seeing that name brought memories back
There are plenty of
There are plenty of recording studios around Cardiff and Newport that I know of, but I'd prefer to work locally if at all possible. If not, then I'll look further afield. I just thought I'd try to suss out the local ones first, but if there's no response then it's no sweat to travel.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into them, but I have a particular studio in mind in Cardiff that I used many moons ago. I'll let you know how it works out.
The problem with recording studios is that they all have their own ideas of how they want to record. I've done a lot of recording myself at home on the PC, and it can get very frustrating, as you're never fully satisfied with the results. That's why I want a studio to do the work for me this time.
It'll just be me and the guitar; no multi-tracking or any such nonsense. And that's the problem. They want to lay the guitar track down first, and then get me to sing over the top of it. That is not what I'm after this time. I've done all that, and I just want a relaxed, "live" kind of sound, with plenty of room for improvising, because that's what jazz and blues is all about.
I don't want any "clinical", doctored, over-produced kind of sound, just a natural ambience. Studios I've been in touch with recently can't get their heads around that simple idea, which is why I've had problems sorting one out for my project.
It's perfectly simple really; two microphones, one for the guitar and the other for the vocals, do a sound balance, press "record" and away we go. What's so damn difficult about that? I know the numbers well, so on a good run, I could record twelve of them in a day flat. That's all I require.
