Has anyone else noticed how overgrown the Cwmbach to Aberdare stretch of the Canal walk has become. I cycle it quite frequently and at times it feels like some kind of freakish circus ride where leaves and branches diminish your viability. This is however a reflection on how infrequently this path is now used, which is a shame considering it was only recently given a face life.
Oh well, moan over.....

is that the path that runs
is that the path that runs along side the canal?? if so me, paul and jacob walked home from asda to aberdare that way back in march. i didn't even know it existed till paul said. we walked to asda one sunny day for a look. we walked there through aberaman then when leaving asda paul said to go cwmbach way. it was a lovely walk although a slight bit creepy if i was on my own.
would reccommend this walk to anyone (well as long as its not too overgrown) lol.
Bunny, it sounds like it's
Bunny, it sounds like it's the one. From Cwmbach you pick it up just after the Total Petrol station and you can then either walk around the top of the Ynys (when that path is not flooded) or emerge around 200 meters before the Aberdare fire station.
yes hun thats the one and
yes hun thats the one and the path to the ynys was well and truly flooded that day lol
There is some history along
There is some history along that footpath Bunny, there are Concrete pillars not far from the Cwmbach entrance, which supported the old railway bridge over the canal, the railway line went to Abernant, and serviced the Abernant number 9 colliery, and the Werfa colliery.
Further along you come to the footpath leading to the Ynys and Aberaman, which goes under the railway bridge, which underneath always holds water in wet weather.
By the turn off, the canal head and docks are by there, there used to be a hand opperated crane, and docking bollards, for the barges, I expect it's all silted and weed covered now, just after the turn off there used to be benches for to sitting on.
If you carried on you would come out near Plasdraw.
Opposite that entrance there used to be a pavillion. With outdoor bowling green's and tennis court.
You would have to be a brave woman to walk there on their own, with the nutters that are around today.
well i walked there with
well i walked there with paul so it was ok but would never walk there alone
I used to use this path
I used to use this path regularly years ago and it was a lovely, peaceful place to sit and while away the time. Now, however I'd be very wary to walk along it on my own due to the apparently mindless idiots that congregate there. They may be perfectly innocent but they still seem very intimidating.
People would use the thing
People would use the thing if the path wasn't flooded all the time. The council sorted it to a point then left the other half (to Cwmbach) !
