Crime Mapping now live in South Wales : Wednesday 17th December 2008

Residents throughout South Wales will be given access to the
latest local crime information through a new interactive crime mapping
website.

Accessible via the front page of this website www.south-wales.police.uk and the force neighbourhood policing website www.ourbobby.com,
the interactive map will provide the public with an opportunity to see
where crime has happened; make comparisons with other areas, and learn
how crime is being tackled by their local neighbourhood policing team.

Using interactive map technology and force crime data, the maps will
highlight by ward level, above-or-below-average crime rates, allowing
for a comparison to the same time the previous year.

Users will be able to zoom in on the map to see specific crime rates
for their neighbourhood, or search by postcode to identify crimes
including:

•Burglary
•Robbery
•Vehicle crime
•Violence against a person
•Number of reports of anti-social behaviour

South Wales Police Assistant Chief Constable Nick Croft said, “Crime mapping is another key aspect of our strategy to keep South Wales safe.

“The site allows us to give much clearer information to our communities in relation to levels of crime on a ward by ward basis.

“The crime mapping site will complement our neighbourhood policing
website, enabling people to see what is being done to tackle local
priorities and contribute towards on going police and partnership
activity”.

Crime Mapping is part of the police services commitment to
strengthen community engagement, which is at the heart of the
government reform programme outlined in the recently published Policing
Green Paper.
