The famous Nos Galan Races commemorate the Welsh runner Guto Nyth Bran and his legendary athletic prowess. Stories of Guto include how he could catch a bird in flight, and how on one occasion he ran to Pontypridd and back, some seven miles, before the kettle boiled.
I can remember the coop and
I can remember the coop and no fats chavs with tattoos
Yes I can remember Aberdare
Yes I can remember Aberdare back in the 60s, It was a pleasant town to visit and my wife and I often did travel over from the Rhondda for a day shopping with an evening visit to the Rex cinema before going back home on the old Red and White bus.
Nicer times back then when people were more respectful to each other and it was safe to go out in the night time.
Our societies have deteriorated since then more's the pity.
I can't remember anyone that were on drugs back then, If they were they were very rare indeed.
What went wrong ???????

How right you are!! There is no respect for anyone these days. I sometimes stay in Aberdare after closing time 5-5.30pm and can assure you, that I dread sitting in the bus-station, what with the kids and 'druggies' and even alcoholics, hanging around there!!!
Yes it's a sad condemnation
Yes it's a sad condemnation on the way we have allowed our communities to be ruled by the unruly.
There seems to be more shockingly bad behaviour people around these days than decent ones.
When I was in Aberdare last on a visit to Wales again back in 2010 I was disgusted with the behaviour of young people hanging about in the town outside the automatic toilets, Their language was terrible and their attitude was definitely anti social. They obviously had no pride in their appearances and no pride in their town as with their behaviour they were only helping Aberdare get a poor reputation which could only deter visitors to the detriment of the economic wellbeing of the town itself, They themselves did'nt look as if they were contributing much to the town's welfare. Sadly Aberdare has deteriorated since the 6os but hopefully it will once again become a prosperous town and one that will be nice to visit.
Time will tell and one can only hope this will happen if it already has'nt.
