Tosh Powell, Welsh title fightsBy John Penri Hillman, Abercwmboi On 8th July 127 Aberdare's outstanding bantamweight, Tosh Powell stopped Treharris's Jonny Edmunds at Merthyr to win the Welsh Bantamweight Title. The referee intervened in the 10th round. Two months later on the 9th September 1927 Powell's first defence saw him beat Trealaw's Nobby Baker at Pontypridd when he retired in the 7th round. On the 17th February 1928 Powell successfully defended for his final defence when Treharris's Tom Samuels was disqualified in the 7th round of a fight that took place again at Pontypridd. Less than four months later Powell died after a contest at Liverpool Stadium on 2nd June 1928. Dai DowerBorn Abercynon 1933 British Empire and European Flyweight champion.
